Managed IT or hourly IT support: which fits a small office

For offices of 5 to 50 people in Westchester, New York City, and North Jersey. Novaj Tech does both. One of them is usually the wrong fit.

Two ways to hire us

Hourly IT support is for when something breaks. There is no plan. Work is billed by the hour, and many common jobs get a fixed price up front so you know the number before we start. We work remote first and come on site when the problem needs hands. The day-to-day is on the IT support page. What the work costs is on the pricing page.

Managed IT is a monthly plan. Novaj Tech managed plans run on an annual agreement. Monitoring 24/7. Support during business hours; emergencies escalated. The plan covers patching, backup oversight, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration, network and firewall care, and managed detection and response by Huntress. Hardware, cabling, office moves, and other projects are quoted on their own.

What a plan includes, and what it leaves out, is on the managed IT page. How the agreement works is on the plain-English terms. The legal version is on the terms page. A longer term is written down only if both sides want it.

Besnik leads the work. On a larger install he brings in insured partners.

When hourly fits

Hourly fits when you do not need someone watching the office between problems.

A steady office that calls a few times a year is the usual case. So is one broken thing, such as a printer that stopped or a laptop on someone's first day, or a team that already has someone internal and wants help with a single job. Hourly is also how you can see how we work before you sign an annual agreement.

The limit is the gap between calls. Nobody is checking backups, installing updates, or watching for a threat unless you ask for that job. You are the one who notices when something is down. A quiet year stays smaller. A bad month does not. We will not guess from this page which one you are in.

When a managed plan fits

A managed plan fits when people cannot work if email or the network is down, and you want that watched on purpose.

People starting and people leaving should be routine account work, not a project. Patching and backup checks should happen without a ticket. You would rather hear about a failing disk, or a locked account, from us than from the person who cannot sign in.

You pay the monthly fee in a quiet month too. Gear you buy, new cable, and a move are not inside that fee. The plain-English terms are where ending an agreement is spelled out.

What the support actually is

Monitoring 24/7. Support during business hours; emergencies escalated. Business hours are Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 Eastern. Email support@novaj.tech for anything that can wait. Call (914) 714-4312 if the office cannot work. That is the same support line we publish on the managed IT page. It is not a night shift answering the phone at 2 am.

How the first conversation works

The first virtual call is free. On-site visits are paid. Book the call and we will tell you whether a plan, hourly work, or neither is the fit, and what it would cost.

If you later sign a managed plan, a visit to fix a covered problem that we cannot fix remotely is included. Visits you ask for beyond the plan are paid. The plain-English terms are that list, not this page.

Where we do this

Westchester, New York City, and North Jersey, for offices of 5 to 50 people. The area pages are Westchester, New York City, and New Jersey. If the network itself is the question, that comparison is UniFi vs Cisco Meraki. Both notes are listed on the guides page.
