The problem
The network was in. Cameras came next.
We set up this family’s UniFi network in March 2024 and added two more access points in March 2025.
Next they wanted cameras inside and outside the house. That meant a recorder to store the video and a proper rack in the utility room to hold the equipment.
What we did
What went into the house.
- Mounted a wall rack on a plywood board in the utility room.
- Installed a UniFi camera recorder with 72 TB of storage, and a 24-port switch that powers the cameras through their network cables.
- Mounted the cameras, then put ends on, tested and labeled every cable, in one long day on May 20, 2025.
- Added a battery backup to the rack.
- Mounted the family’s own outdoor access point under an eave.
- On August 15, 2025, added a second rack in the mudroom with its own patch panel and battery backup.
The result
Both racks were done by August 15, 2025.
The utility room rack was finished in July 2025 and the mudroom rack on August 15. Both run on the same UniFi system as the rest of the house.
