Project in Hudson Square, Manhattan

A growing team’s network, from Chelsea to Hudson Square.

First we replaced two ISP routers and their extenders with one UniFi network. Eleven weeks later they moved to a full floor in Hudson Square, and we built the network there.

The first office

Two ISP routers, a few extenders, unreliable Wi-Fi.

They found us on Thumbtack in May 2025. Their Chelsea office ran on a Verizon router and a Spectrum router, with extenders filling the gaps.

We offered two designs. They picked the one that reused the existing Ethernet, so no new cable went in.

What we installed

One network, with a backup line that takes over on its own.

  • UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra
  • 8-port PoE switch
  • Two in-wall access points on existing jacks
  • Verizon as the main line, Spectrum as automatic backup

Both lines tested at a gigabit on install day. With Verizon unplugged, Spectrum took over in seconds.

The move

Then they outgrew it. A full floor in Hudson Square.

In August they moved to a full floor in Hudson Square. It came with racks, fiber between the two network closets, cable trays and ceiling drops for access points.

On Saturday, August 9 we pulled the network gear out of the old office in the morning and walked the new floor in the afternoon to plan the build.

The old in-wall access points didn’t suit the new space and the old gateway had no fiber port, so the new floor got its own rack-mounted network.

Build day

Built in one day, on every existing drop.

We built the new network on Wednesday, August 13. The plan used every access point drop the floor already had, with the core in the racks and the access points on the cable trays.

An expedited equipment order ran late. We had the main switch delivered locally the day before and kept the date.

We didn’t run new cable here. The racks, fiber and trays came with the floor.

After the move

Tuning once people moved in.

In September a few corners of the floor reported weak Wi-Fi. We retuned the access points after hours on September 12. When one area acted up again on September 30, rebooting its access point fixed it the same afternoon.

In December we turned on Ethernet at two desks, one of them for a videographer moving large files. In January we turned on seven more desk ports after a desk shuffle.

They have an in-house IT admin now, with full access to the network.
